Sempra Homes planning application to provide new homes in the town centre location within Basildon was approved at Basildon Council’s planning committee on Wednesday 14th December 2022.

The plans for the Chapelgate development will see a derelict former car park replaced with 105 new homes. The scheme will provide two apartment blocks of part-five/part-six storeys, each containing 35 apartments, 10x three-storey townhouses, 20x two-storey semi-detached houses and a two-storey terrace of 5 houses. All homes are designed to meet or exceed the national space standards with associated parking, vehicle charging, cycle and pedestrian access, ecology and landscaping improvements.

The development has been designed with high quality materials and careful consideration of how landscaping can be used to enhance the biodiversity of the site while also creating a sense of place and enhanced visual amenity. In addition, the development will be able to accommodate green roofs and air source heat pumps, going above and beyond current sustainability policy requirements.

Melanie Keys, Service Manager of Sempra Homes, said:  "This is an exciting project for Sempra where we will be delivering much needed affordable homes in a well-connected town centre location. The site has been disused in excess of 10 years now and the addition of these new homes will improve the street scene and provide more housing opportunities for Basildon’s residents and key workers to get a foot on the property ladder. Local jobs will also be created through the construction process, and use of local supply chains and provision of apprentice placements.

It's been a tremendous effort from the Project team and external consultants and we look forward to bringing these homes to the market."
