Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress

This International Women’s Day we are celebrating the female talent within Sempra Homes that helps drive forward our business as well as supporting and improving the lives of residents within the communities we work in.

We speak to Melanie Keys, Chartered Member of the Institute of Housing, and a Senior Leader at Sempra Homes.

Why is it important to recognise International Women’s Day

“At Sempra Homes we recognise the importance of breaking down barriers in the construction industry and supporting women into the sector. International Women’s Day provides us with the opportunity to raise awareness of this and celebrate the many women that are part of our fantastic team.”

How does Sempra Homes support women joining the industry?

“Women are equal partners in the workplace at Sempra Homes and we have an inclusive environment which allows everyone to flourish.

“We support career development for every member of the team, which includes coaching, shadowing, mentoring, formal training, across a range of areas such as project management, business development, estate agency, construction management, site working and new business."

“We also have a strong culture of ‘grow your own’ to allow personal growth and development. This enables women to have a rewarding career in the industry and we are proud to have women working across all levels of the business including apprentice trainees, project management, senior management and leadership roles.”

“As a female leader I have been entrusted and supported by the Board at Sempra to grow and expand the business and I have taken this opportunity to deliver the evolution of Sempra from its initial modest business plan into a thriving business that delivers much-needed quality housing for residents.  Together with opportunity for enhancing my own personal development journey in the housing sector and those of my colleagues, with an emphasis to ‘inspire inclusion’  and encourage and support my teams to be the best they can be.”
