Councillor Jeff Henry, who is a Member of Basildon Council's Housing and Estate Renewal Committee, and a director of Sempra Homes, the council's house building company, signed the Armed Forces Covenant this week.

By signing the covenant Sempra Homes recognises the value serving personnel, both regular and reservists, veterans and military families contribute to the country and the community.

Councillor Henry said: "I am proud to have signed the Armed Forces Covenant on behalf of Sempra Homes. Members of the Armed Forces past and present make such an important contribution to society and should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives. This is why Sempra Homes opened up its key worker scheme to veterans and members of the Armed Forces to help them get a foot on the property ladder and into homes of their own after their years of dedicated service.

"Basildon borough and the towns that make it up have a long and proud history with those that choose to answer the call to serve."

Sempra Homes provides a range of tenures including affordable rent, shared ownership, market rent and market sale. These homes provide something for everyone, from singles and couples looking to buy their first home, to families needing extra space, as well as older people wanting to downsize and enjoy their retirement.
