The company is providing a contribution of £10,000 towards the Find Your Active Basildon Partnership to improve the health of the local community through wellbeing and physical activity community work in the area, which is aligned with the Council’s Safe and Sounds Estates work.
This funding will also extend to a number of projects which are playing a vital role in the local community, including Park Play, one of the key successes of the Local Delivery Plan. It provides free, fun games and activities sessions for families on a weekly basis to bring together people of all ages and abilities to take part in physical activity in an inclusive environment. A recent report shows the success of this project with a £30 social return for every £1 spent.
Melanie Keys, Services Manager at Sempra Homes comments, “We are proud to be providing this funding which will be supporting a range of projects, which we hope will have a positive impact and make a real difference to the local community.”
Another project is Achieve, Thrive and Flourish Community Sessions, which are aimed at teenagers to build a sense of togetherness and teach life skills through sport, art, heritage and culture, helping to reduce the risk of exclusion and anti-social behaviour and providing a safe environment, increased opportunity and enhanced wellbeing.
With the ongoing impact of rising living costs, Sempra will also be supporting initiatives focused on reducing inequalities around access to food, particularly during school holidays where children don’t receive free school meals and therefore, they (or their parents) may have to skip meals.
Markhams Chase will provide three, contemporary two bedroom homes, which will be delivered in partnership with One Public Estate under the Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities Brownfield Land Release Fund (BLRF) programme.
The high quality modern houses will be available as part of Sempra Homes’ Shared Ownership affordable housing programme, which will give priority to Basildon Borough residents, key workers, and veterans, who will be able to purchase these homes and make their first steps on the housing ladder.
As well as the funding, Sempra Homes will also be creating a new sheltered bus stop on Markhams Close with real time information boards. The development was designed by Calford Seadon Architects and Building Associates are appointed to construct the new development, with PSW acting as Sempra’s Employers Agents.
