A Year On: Frankie’s apprenticeship journey with Sempra Homes

Story posted: 09/02/2026

A year on from starting his apprenticeship, Frankie Facey continues to go from strength to strength in the construction industry, proving just how powerful hands-on learning can be.

Frankie has now completed his Level 2 NVQ Apprenticeship in Bricklaying, a major milestone in his development. Over the past year, he has built on both his technical skills and on-site experience, working across live developments and learning directly from experienced tradespeople.

During his time with GSQ Brickwork, Frankie worked on Sempra Homes’ developments in Basildon, contributing to the brickwork through to completion towards the end of last year. This experience gave him invaluable exposure to working on high-quality residential developments and understanding the standards required on construction sites.

Frankie is now in the advanced stage of his training, continuing his journey to become a fully qualified bricklayer, with aspirations that go even further. Next, he will be working towards a Level 3 NVQ in Bricklaying and Supervising, alongside Site Supervisor Safety Training, supporting his long-term goal of progressing into a supervisory or management role.

Currently, Frankie is gaining further experience on a development in Kent, broadening his skills across different sites and contractors. Despite changing location, his enthusiasm for the trade hasn’t changed.

“I’ve always preferred learning by doing,” Frankie says. “Being on site, working with experienced bricklayers every day, is where you really pick things up. I’ve learned so much in the last year, and I’m excited to keep pushing myself.”

Melanie Keys, Services Manager at Sempra Homes, comments, “Frankie’s development over the past year has been fantastic to see. He has shown real commitment to learning his trade, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude on site. At Sempra Homes, we are passionate about supporting apprentices and creating clear pathways for progression, and Frankie is a great example of how apprenticeships help build skilled professionals for the future.”

As Frankie continues to develop his skills and confidence, his journey highlights the real value of apprenticeships. For Sempra Homes, his progress is a great example of how investing in early careers helps build not just homes, but future leaders in the industry.

The future is bright for Frankie, and this is only the beginning.
