Sempra Homes has received two Highly Commended Awards at this year’s Government Property Awards, alongside Basildon Council, recognising the successful delivery of 166 new homes across three combined developments at Chapelgate, Broadmayne and Tyefields, in Basildon.

The developments were celebrated in both the Collaboration and Project of the Year categories, highlighting the collective work of the organisations involved in bringing the three schemes forward.

Together, the schemes have transformed underutilised brownfield sites to provide a mix of affordable rent, shared ownership and private sale homes, alongside improvements to the wider local area.

Melanie Keys, Services Manager for Sempra Homes, said: “It is fantastic to see these projects recognised at the Government Property Awards, particularly across two categories that reflect the importance of collaboration in bringing forward complex developments.

“From unlocking the sites and putting the necessary infrastructure in place through to delivering the new homes and improvements to the surrounding areas, this has involved a huge amount of work from everyone involved. The awards are a great way to recognise the collective effort and the outcomes it has helped to deliver for Basildon.”

Across the three developments, all affordable rent and shared ownership homes are now occupied, while more than 70% of private sale homes have been reserved or sold.

The collaborative approach between Sempra Homes, Basildon Borough Council, Homes England, One Public Estate, South Essex Councils and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, The Hill Group and Site Ready Solutions has been central to bringing the three projects forward.

Government funding helped unlock infrastructure, enabling the schemes to progress and support the delivery of a range of housing opportunities across the three sites.

Alongside the new homes, improvements have been delivered for the wider community, including new play and picnic areas, footpaths and cycle lanes, enhanced open spaces, tree and wildflower planting and biodiversity improvements.

The Government Property Awards celebrate excellence across the public sector property industry, recognising projects and collaborations that deliver positive outcomes through effective working across organisations.
